In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, and the worldwide events following that day, the need for strengthening and securing our communities has become more important. The Homeland Security initiatives will operate very much like a Neighborhood Watch Program, which has been active across the nation for over thirty years.
The following links will help you better understand the issue of Terrorism and provide information that should help to identify signs of potential terrorists activity, and how to report incidents you may encounter. Deputies within the Crime Prevention Section of our office are currently available to work with your community and develop programs to accomplish this endeavor.
The SJSO wants everyone to help them find terrorists:
* Do you know anyone who travels but is vague on where they're going?
* Do you know someone with documents in different names for no obvious reason?
* Do you know someone buying large or unusual quantities of chemicals for no obvious reason?
* Handling chemicals is dangerous, maybe you've seen goggles or masks dumped somewhere?
* If you work in commercial vehicle hire or sales, has a sale or rental made you suspicious?
* Have you seen someone with large quantities of vehicles?
* Have you seen anyone taking pictures of security arrangements?
* Do you know someone who visits terrorist-related websites?
* Have you seen any suspicious check or credit card transactions?
* If someone is asking for a short-term lease on a house or apartment on a cash basis for no apparent reason?
