Support is commanded by Commander Bill Werle and is comprised of multiple sections: telecommunications, mental health, emergency management, special teams, e-911, bailiff, government security, and tax collector’s office security.
Telecommunications is managed by LT Cristie Taylor. This Unit answers all 911 calls placed in the county and dispatches calls for service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The 911 call takers and dispatchers are certified Public Safety Telecommunicators (PST’s). The Telecommunications Center is the primary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in the county. Emergency Preparedness/Bailiff’s Unit is managed by LT David Zufelt. The Bailiffs & Government Security deputies provide onsite security for local government entities to include the St. Johns County Judicial Complex. Bailiffs attend all court appearances to ensure the safety and order of the courtroom.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has established Special Teams to assist and enhance Agency operations and functions. Each plays an important role in the responsibilities, some even require the response of specially trained sworn employees to critical incidents or unusual occurrences.
