Where do I go to pick up an application? Beginning October 1, 2015, paper application will no longer be accepted. Please click on the following link to submit an online application.

Do you accept general applications or resumes? The only application accepted by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is our application. Resumes are not accepted.

What is the closing date of the positions? Unless otherwise indicated, there are no closing dates. Positions are open until filled.

How will you notify me regarding my application process? You will be notified primarily through email as your application progresses through the hiring process. Please check your email frequently and add our name to your safe senders list to avoid being considered junk mail.

Is this application the same as those used by other county agencies? No, this application is only used by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

If I am certified in another state, what must I do to become Florida Certified? You must contact a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) assessment center to have your current training and certification assessed. Please visit FDLE’s website for Equivalency of Training requirements at

Can I turn in my application for Law Enforcement or Corrections prior to becoming certified? You must be state certified or currently enrolled in an academy class to submit a Law Enforcement Deputy or Corrections Deputy application.

Must I be a resident of St. Johns County to apply? No. However, employees who are assigned an agency vehicle may live no more than ten (10) miles from the St. Johns County line. It is not an option to decline a take home car in lieu of the ten (10) mile restriction. You will be given 180 days from the date of hire to relocate

Does the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office have a take home car program? Yes, take home cars are available for most law enforcement positions.

Does SJSO Have policy in place for appearance to include tattoos, beards, piercings, etc? Yes, our agency has a policy and SOP in place which outlines the agency’s appearance standards. Appearance Policy

Do you have to start in corrections prior to going to the road? No, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is looking for those who want to make corrections a career. In order to apply for transfer from corrections to another position, there is a preferred three (3) year waiting period.

May I apply for two different positions? No, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office will only accept applications for one open position within the agency.

Do you pay for years of experience? Yes, full-time, non-ranking employees will be given one (1) step in the pay plan for every four (4) years of prior service. This increase will be limited to a maximum of a three (3) step increase.

Sworn: Service with another law enforcement agency and within the current career path. Prior military service will not be considered as prior law enforcement/corrections service.
Civilian: Service with a governmental agency, federal, state, or local, and within the current career path.
