Crime Prevention

Our Crime Prevention Section was established to assist the community in reducing the likelihood that we may become the victims of crime. We are responsible for the development and implementation of Crime Prevention Programs and information sharing.

Our goal is to promote programs, such as, Women’s Personal Safety, Prevention of Workplace Violence, Seniors vs. Crime (to name a few) to enhance the safety and security of the citizens of St. Johns County. We are the “meet your needs” section and will work with you on scheduling and planning for the program of your choosing for your group or organization. We want to make sure that you walk away from the program more knowledgeable and feeling safer than you did walking into it, and knowing that you can count on us to be there whenever you need us.

Through knowledge and community involvement, we can help to improve the quality of life in St. Johns County. We stand ready to serve all our residents and visitors alike.

Our Crime Prevention Objectives are simple:

  • To encourage citizens to protect their homes and businesses against burglaries
  • To encourage citizen involvement in the reporting of crime
  • To develop appropriate programming for various interested groups
  • To distribute material on crime prevention
  • To serve as a liaison with formal community organizations and other interested community groups. Every SJSO Crime Prevention deputy is required to achieve the designation of “Florida Crime Prevention Practitioner” by getting their certification through the Florida Attorney General’s Crime Prevention Training Institute (FCPTI). Many achieve and maintain current Instructor Certification status. Deputies in the unit are also active members of the Florida Crime Prevention Association (FCPA) and serve on various planning boards, and local business associations.
