Operations

The Operations Division’s law enforcement functions are divided into four distinct categories

  • Homeland Security
  • Special Operations
  • Training

Communications

The Communications Center is the primary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for all of St. Johns County. All 911 calls placed in the county are received by our dedicated Public Safety Telecommunicators (PSTs). In addition to handling emergency 911 calls they also answer administrative calls and dispatch for not only the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office but also the St Augustine Police Department and the St Augustine Beach Police Department.  Our PSTs answer over 100,000 emergency 911 calls annually all while exceeding national standards for answering times. PSTs ensure communication and support for citizens and first responders within the county around the clock.

Housed within the Communications Unit is our 911/GIS section. Our 911 GIS Supervisor and 911/GIS Analysts resolve addressing issues and ensure that our PSTs and first responders in our county have accurate maps and location services to find those who call for assistance. Our 911 GIS Supervisor is the 911 Coordinator for St Johns County and is responsible for the purchase, upgrades and maintaining of the 911 system which includes continuously advancing technologies.
